What Makes Kingsway Different

Kingsway is a faux wood shutter, composite material with a smooth painted finish that mimics the look of painted wood without the cost or the moisture vulnerability of real timber.

The reason we fit Luxaflex specifically rather than the cheaper faux wood ranges out there comes down to the manufacturing.

Luxaflex is HunterDouglas, the world's largest window covering manufacturer, and the panels are produced at their European production plant rather than mass-produced in Asia. The composite holds its shape over years without bowing, and the painted finish doesn't lift around the edges the way budget faux wood ranges do after two or three years.

Kingsway also gives you decisions other faux wood ranges don't. Three louvre sizes, three tilt-rod positions including a fully concealed option, and a 19-colour palette that goes well beyond the white-and-cream default most faux wood is sold in.

The Colour Palette

Kingsway has the broadest colour palette of any shutter in our range. Solid wood Madison gives you 25 finishes including custom matching, but Kingsway gives you 19 ready-made painted colours without the lead-time or cost premium of bespoke matching.

Choose Your Louvre Size

Three louvre sizes. 64mm reads more traditional and suits cottage-style or narrower windows. 76mm sits between the two. 89mm is the modern default, cleaner sightlines, more glass exposed when the louvres are open, and the only size that supports the hidden tilt option.

Choose Your Tilt Position

The tilt mechanism is what you use to open and close the louvres. Kingsway offers three positions, each suited to a different look.

Centre

A traditional vertical rod down the middle of the panel. Operates the louvres in unison. Available on 64mm and 76mm louvres. The classic plantation shutter look, suits period properties and traditional interiors.

Offset

The tilt rod sits to one side of the panel rather than centred. Same mechanism, less visually intrusive. Available on 76mm and 89mm louvres.

Hidden

No visible tilt rod at all. The louvres are tilted by turning them with your hand, with the mechanism concealed inside the stile. The cleanest, most contemporary look. Available on 89mm louvres only.

Bathroom and Kitchen Safe

Kingsway is water-resistant. The composite material won't fade, crack or chip when exposed to humidity, splashes or normal kitchen and bathroom use. That makes it suitable for any room in the house, including the wet rooms where solid wood would be a mistake.

A note on terminology that matters: Kingsway is water-resistant, not fully waterproof. There's a real difference. For a daily-use shower room, our Poly Vinyl shutters are the better fit, Urban is shower-rated and warrantied for direct steam without ventilation caveats. Kingsway handles the standard family bathroom, en-suite, kitchen and utility room without trouble.

The composite is also fire retardant and child-safe (no cords, no chains), which matters for rental properties and for any room where small children are around.

For Landlords, Holiday Lets and Commercial Fits

Kingsway is one of the shutters we fit most often into rental properties, holiday lets and small commercial spaces. The composite is fire retardant, the surface wipes clean between tenancies, and the cordless design satisfies child-safety regulations without further hardware.

For HMO landlords, the colour range matters as much as the practicality — being able to specify a single grey shade across a whole-property fit-out gives the property a more considered look than the white-only alternatives.

We can quote on multi-property orders. Mention the use case at the home visit and we'll factor it into the pricing.

Customer Questions

Common Questions About Faux Wood Shutters

Answers to common questions about our made-to-measure faux wood shutters.

Kingsway is the middle option in price and the answer for buyers who want a coloured shutter at mid-tier cost. The 19-colour palette is the headline, neither of our other ranges can match it on ready-made colour without going to bespoke matching.

Water-resistant rather than fully waterproof, the distinction matters.

The composite handles humidity, splashes and normal bathroom or kitchen use without fading, cracking or chipping. That covers most rooms most people want a shutter in.

What it isn't is shower-rated. For a daily-use shower room with poor extraction, the Urban polysilk vinyl range is the safer specification, fully non-porous, 10-year warranty, no caveats on direct steam exposure.

Damp cloth and warm water for the routine clean. Mild soap if anything's stuck. Skip the furniture polish, white spirit and solvent sprays, they'll dull the painted finish.

The composite doesn't need any specific maintenance products. Done properly, the surface keeps its finish for the life of the shutter.

It's the visible mechanism on the front of the panel. Centre tilt is the traditional plantation shutter look, a vertical rod down the middle, operates all the louvres at once. Suits period properties and traditional interiors. Available on 64mm and 76mm louvres.

Offset tilt moves the same rod to one side of the panel. Same mechanism, less visually dominant. Available on 76mm and 89mm louvres.

Hidden tilt removes the rod entirely, the louvres are turned directly by hand, with the mechanism concealed inside the stile. The cleanest look, but only available on the 89mm louvre.

We bring all three to the home visit. Most buyers don't realise it's a real decision until they see them side by side.
