Designed Differently

Why Standard Blinds Don’t Work for Roof Windows

Roof windows sit at an angle with no wall space either side. A standard roller blind won't stay in position, it sags away from the glass and leaves light gaps around every edge.

Roof window blinds run in side channels fixed to the window frame itself. The fabric stays guided against the glass at any angle, and you can stop it at any point for partial coverage.

How It Works

How Roof Window Blinds Work

Roof window blinds are designed to fit directly within the window frame using side channels. This keeps the fabric guided in place, even when the window is angled.

The blind can be positioned at any point along the window, giving you full control over light and privacy without fully opening or closing it.

Because the system is fitted to the window itself, it creates a cleaner finish with fewer light gaps than standard blinds.

  • Fitted within the window frame for a precise fit
  • Side channels keep the blind in place at any angle
  • Position the blind anywhere for flexible light control
  • Reduces light gaps around the edges

Made to fit Velux, Fakro, Keylite and other common roof window systems.

Designed to Fit Your Space

Light Control for Any Room

Designed for loft spaces where light and temperature can change quickly throughout the day.

Light Filtering

Softens daylight and reduces glare without blocking the view. The right choice for loft living spaces and home offices used during the day.

Blackout

Blocks virtually all light. The standard recommendation for loft bedrooms, especially east-facing roof windows where the sun wakes you at 5am in summer.

Thermal

Insulating fabric that reduces heat loss in winter and slows heat build-up in summer. Worth considering for loft rooms that swing between too hot and too cold.

Where Roof Window Blinds Work Best

Loft Bedrooms

East-facing roof windows let in full sun from early morning. Blackout blinds are essential here, not optional. Motorised is worth considering if the window is high on the slope and hard to reach from the bed.

Bathrooms & En-suites

Moisture-resistant fabric only. Standard fabrics will develop mould in a steamy loft
bathroom. Aluminium venetian or moisture-resistant roller in a roof window frame are the practical options.

Home Offices

Glare on a screen from a roof window directly above is worse than from a side window. Light-filtering blinds cut the glare without darkening the room. Position the blind halfway down to shade the desk while keeping the top of the room bright.

Finding Your Window Code

Every Velux, Fakro and Keylite window has a code stamped on the frame, usually on a metal plate on the top edge when the window is open. This code tells us the exact size and model. If you can find it before your home visit, it speeds up the process. If you can't, we'll find it when we arrive.

Customer Questions

Common Questions About Roof Blinds

Answers to common questions about roof blinds.

Open the window and look for a metal plate on the top edge of the frame. It'll show a code like GGL M04 or GPU CK04. This tells us the exact size. If you can't find it, don't worry, we'll identify it during the home visit.

Yes. We fit for Fakro, Keylite, Rooflite and most other standard roof window brands. The process is the same, we need the window code or we'll measure on site.

Yes, and for high or hard-to-reach roof windows we'd recommend it. Battery-powered, controlled by remote, app or voice. No wiring. Much easier than reaching up to a manual control bar every morning and evening.

Yes. They block or reflect solar heat before it enters the room. Thermal blinds perform best, but even a standard blackout blind makes a noticeable difference. For loft rooms that overheat, blinds won't replace ventilation but they'll reduce the peak temperature.
